Civilytix Maps · operated by Civilytix Private Limited | Effective 30 July 2026 · Last updated 30 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Civilytix Private Limited ("Civilytix", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Civilytix Maps mobile application (the "App"). By using the App you agree to this policy.
Our privacy-first design in one line: only the road-facing view is used to build our public hazard map; faces and vehicle number plates are automatically blurred before anything is stored; the cabin camera and audio stay private to you; and we do not require any account or login.
1. Who we are
The App is provided by Civilytix Private Limited, a company incorporated in India. For any privacy question or request, contact us at harshit.sharma@civilytix.com or harshitsharma182021@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
| Category | What | Why |
| Location (GPS) | Precise/approximate location while the App is in use | To show and report road hazards near you and provide navigation |
| Camera | Road-facing images/video (phone camera or a linked dashcam) | To detect road hazards. The cabin/inward camera is shown only to you and is never used for mapping |
| Microphone | Audio, only when you use live view, recording, or two-way talk | To hear the vehicle and to speak through a linked dashcam. Not used or stored for mapping |
| Dashcam telemetry | Speed, heading, device/vehicle status from a linked dashcam | Driving-aware hazard detection and device status |
| Anonymous device ID | A random identifier created on your device | To remember the dashcams you have linked. No name, email, or phone number is required |
| Technical data | Basic app/diagnostic and connection information | To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service |
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
3. How we use information
- To detect road hazards (such as potholes, cracks, speed breakers, manholes, and barricades) and place them on a public, anonymous hazard map.
- To warn you about hazards ahead and provide navigation.
- To let you view your linked dashcam live, record clips, play recordings, and use two-way talk.
- To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the service.
4. Anonymisation & how the hazard map is built
- Road-only for mapping. Only the road-facing camera view is ever used to build the map. The cabin/inward camera and all audio remain private to you and are never used or stored for mapping.
- Faces and number plates are blurred automatically before any image is stored, using automated image processing. The blur is irreversible.
- Aggregated, not individual. A hazard is published on the map only when multiple independent observations agree. The public map reflects the majority — it is not tied to you.
- Short-lived raw media. Blurred road clips are retained only briefly for processing; the underlying raw frames are discarded.
5. App permissions
The App requests these permissions on your device (Android and iOS), used only for the purposes above:
- Location — hazard mapping and navigation.
- Camera — road hazard detection and dashcam live view.
- Microphone — live audio and two-way talk with a linked dashcam.
- Internet/network — to sync hazards and stream dashcam media.
You can revoke any permission at any time in your device settings; some features will then be unavailable.
6. Sharing & processing
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We use Google Cloud as our infrastructure provider to process and store data.
- Data sovereignty. Data from linked hardware is processed and stored only on infrastructure controlled by Civilytix and is not routed through or stored in China.
- We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
7. Data retention
Blurred road clips are kept only for a short period needed for processing and are then deleted. Anonymous, aggregated hazard data (location and hazard type, with no identifying imagery) may be retained long-term to maintain the map. Your linked-device associations remain until you unlink them or clear the App's data.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including access controls, encrypted transport, and automated anonymisation before storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Your choices & rights
- Manage or revoke permissions in your device settings.
- Unlink a dashcam at any time from within the App.
- Clear the App's local data (this resets your anonymous device ID and unlinks your devices).
- Contact us at harshit.sharma@civilytix.com or harshitsharma182021@gmail.com to ask about the data associated with your device.
10. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above.
