This Privacy Policy explains how Civilytix Private Limited ("Civilytix", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Civilytix Maps mobile application and the associated Civilytix web console (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
The Service is provided by Civilytix Private Limited, a company incorporated in India. For any privacy question or request, contact us at harshit.sharma@civilytix.com or harshitsharma182021@gmail.com.
| Category | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | Precise/approximate location while the Service is in use | To show and report road hazards near you, provide navigation, and (for fleets) show a vehicle's live location and route history to its fleet manager |
| Camera — road | Road-facing images/video (phone camera or a linked dashcam) | To detect road hazards and to improve our detection models (see §4) |
| Camera — cabin | Inward/cabin video from a linked dashcam | Shown live and on request to the owner (or, for a fleet vehicle, the fleet manager). Never used for the hazard map and not permanently stored on our servers |
| Microphone / audio | Audio during live view, recording, or two-way talk | To hear the vehicle and to speak through a linked dashcam. Transmitted for live use; not used or stored for mapping |
| Dashcam telemetry | Speed, heading, ignition, device/vehicle status | Driving-aware hazard detection, device status, and fleet alerts (e.g. over-speed, geofence) |
| Fleet account (managers only) | Email address, a password, and an optional name | To create and secure a fleet-manager account and send verification/password one-time codes by email |
| Fleet-vehicle details (entered by managers) | Truck/vehicle number and driver name a manager enters for their own vehicles | To label and manage the manager's own fleet |
| Anonymous device ID | A random identifier created on your device | To remember the dashcams you have linked in the consumer app (no name, email, or phone required) |
| Technical data | Basic app/diagnostic and connection information | To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service |
The everyday consumer app requires no account and does not ask for your name, email, or phone number. An account (email + password) is required only for fleet managers who manage a fleet of vehicles.
Fleet managers can create an account (email + password, with email one-time codes for verification and password reset) to manage their own fleet. A fleet manager can, for the vehicles linked to their account: see live and historical GPS location and routes; view the live road and cabin cameras and play back recorded footage by date and time; hear vehicle audio and speak to the driver (two-way talk); set geofences; and receive alerts. They can also store a truck number and driver name for their vehicles.
Driver notice is the fleet manager's responsibility. If you deploy Civilytix in vehicles driven by others, you are responsible for informing your drivers and obtaining any consent required by applicable law for in-cab video/audio and location monitoring. Civilytix provides the tools; the fleet operator is the controller of that monitoring.
The App requests these permissions on your device (Android and iOS), used only for the purposes above:
You can revoke any permission at any time in your device settings; some features will then be unavailable.
Road-facing imagery retained to train and improve our models is kept on access-controlled Civilytix infrastructure for as long as it is useful for model development, and is minimised and anonymised over time. Continuous cloud recording (DVR). For a linked vehicle, both the road and cabin cameras are continuously recorded to access-controlled Civilytix cloud storage by default, kept private to that vehicle's owner/account, and retained for up to 1 year before automatic deletion. An owner or fleet manager can turn cloud recording off for either camera at any time in the app or web console. Because the cabin camera films people inside the vehicle, the vehicle owner / fleet operator is responsible for informing all drivers and occupants that the cabin is being recorded and stored in the cloud, and for obtaining any consent required by applicable law (including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act). Civilytix provides the tools; the owner/operator is the controller of that in-cabin monitoring. Recorded clips a user saves are retained for a limited period for their own playback. Anonymous, aggregated hazard data (location and hazard type, with faces/plates blurred) may be retained long-term to maintain the map. Fleet-account data (email, name, truck/driver labels, geofences, alerts) is retained until you delete your account or ask us to remove it. Consumer linked-device associations remain until you unlink them or clear the App's data.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including access controls, encrypted transport (HTTPS/WSS), hashed account passwords, and automated blurring of faces and number plates in published imagery. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above.
